This area had many 5 floor concrete apartment buildings each with approximately 20 apartments per building. This particular complex had about 20 similar buildings. All of the buildings have structural damage. Turkish authorities intend to demolish all of these buildings. The inhabitants are currently sheltered in tent cities.
Typical buildings as seen from highway entrance.
These two buildings (two photos) were located next to each other on
the same street. The building on the left did not collapse, but is
structurally damaged. The identical building on the right had a first
floor collapse. Note that canopy that was over the stairs is now
flush with the stairs.
Roof and portion of top floor collapsed.
Column to slab joint at second floor level.
Typical building under construction. Photo shows concrete work
in progress.
