Many people have inquired as how to donate to the Massachusetts Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. In 1998 the Task Force set up a non-profit corporation the "New England Association for Search and Rescue" who's function is to provide support, training, equipment and funding of our Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. The association has IRS 401(c)(3) determination letter and a Federal Identification Number: 04-3407381.
It should be noted that less than 15% of our yearly expenses come from state or federal (FEMA) sources. All of our members train as volunteers and the search dogs are personal property of the volunteer owner. In addition to training given by the Task Force here in Massachusetts, members pay their own way to travel to training courses held around the country. Last year the Task Force was able to fund less than 20% of members travel to training courses. Unfortunately most of the search dog evaluation courses (a requirement for our dogs and handlers) is held on the west coast where local officials support these events because of the high probability of earthquakes.
We would appreciate any donation. All of the money is used directly for training and equipment. If you wish, you may specify how you would like your donation used (canine, rescue, equipment, etc.). You may also make the checks payable to:
